Launching on Kickstarter — November 2026

Remember when coding was fun?

No tickets. No standups. Just you and 4,096 pixels.

These days the AI writes the code and you review it. CURIO LED gives you back the good part: a wall-mounted 64×64 RGB LED matrix, 64×64 = 4,096 pixels on an ESP32 with Wi-Fi, that runs the Lua scripts you write and upload. The panel on this page isn't a video. It's the real firmware demo running in your browser.

A 64 by 64 grid of glowing LED dots inside a dark aluminium bezel. The Script tab cycles a bar chart, a sine wave, a countdown and Conway's Life, or shows any text you type in the field below. The Games tab rotates self-playing Pong, Snake and Breakout. The Art tab renders plasma shaders and an animated aquarium.

Lua scripting

Upload a script. Watch it run.

Write a few lines of Lua, upload the file, and the panel runs it. Every pixel of every frame is yours to draw, and every bug is yours to fix. Nobody suggests the next line.

  1. Write it Plain Lua, in whatever editor you already use.
  2. Upload it Send the .lua file to the panel.
  3. Watch it run Your code draws on 4,096 real LEDs on your wall.
plasma.lua
-- runs on CURIO LED, called once per frame
function draw(t)
  for y = 0, 63 do
    for x = 0, 63 do
      local v = math.sin(x / 8 + t) + math.cos(y / 8 - t)
      panel.drawPixel(x, y, panel.hsv(v * 40 + t * 30, 1, 1))
    end
  end
end

Illustrative sample. The final Lua API is documented at launch.

What it does

  • Scripts

Upload Lua and draw every frame yourself, or push data from anything on your network over the open API and MQTT.

  • Plays

Built-in arcade and roguelike games, multiplayer with friends, retro pixel classics.

  • Glows

Pixel art, generative shaders and music-reactive light for when it isn't running your code.

Side project

The side project you'll actually finish.

64×64 is small enough to hold in your head. A plasma effect is a couple of nested loops, a clock is an evening, and Conway's Life is a weekend. When Lua isn't the right tool, the open API and MQTT let anything on your network push to the panel: build status, on-call alerts, a countdown to Friday.

Games

For when the tests are running.

Built-in arcade and roguelike games, head-to-head multiplayer rounds with friends, and retro classics like Pong, Snake and Breakout, played on real LEDs instead of another screen.

Watch it play on the panel

Art

A living artwork.

Pixel art and generative shaders, an animated aquarium, music-reactive light via Spotify, and AI: describe a scene in plain language and the panel renders it. Or skip the AI and write the shader yourself.
